Check before purchasing

The module reference, the intended operation, the connection mode and any accessories specified in the procedure.

Which version is offered here?

This product page covers only Configuration A: passenger cars and electric vehicles. The motorcycle (B), heavy-duty vehicle (C), and airbag/battery/SAS reset (D) configurations require separate activations.

Passenger car applications

OBDSTAR coverage includes Bosch MED/EDC17, Continental SIMOS and Delphi families, as well as certain DSG, Aisin and ZF 8HP transmission modules. Listed applications include cloning certain BMW 8HP GEN3 TCMs in BENCH mode, transferring data on selected Volkswagen SIMOS/ME17/EDC17 variants, and reading/writing certain Ford MG1/MD1 GEN2 units via OBD or BENCH.

Please note: coverage of a control unit family does not mean that every variant is supported. Always check the hardware and software references and the intended operation.

Examples of functions, depending on the control unit

  • Cloning: transfer data from the original module to a compatible replacement unit.
  • Reading and writing: extract and back up Flash or EEPROM data, then write the appropriate data.
  • Checksum: check or recalculate data integrity where the function is available.
  • VIN and virgin reset: prepare certain replacement control units as part of an authorised repair.

Electric vehicle applications

Configuration A also covers applications on certain BMS (battery management system) and VCU (vehicle control unit) systems. OBDSTAR lists Bosch units found in Audi, Volkswagen, SEAT, Škoda, Geely and Great Wall vehicles, as well as certain SAIC and BYD applications. Cloning availability depends on the exact module reference.

Connection modes

OBD

Via the diagnostic port, where supported.

BENCH

Control unit removed and connected on the bench.

BOOT

Low-level access according to the module procedure.

JTAG / BDM

Direct connection for certain control unit families.

How does an operation work?
